About Filoli Historic House & Garden

Boasting 654 acres of vibrant landscape in the Bay Area, Filoli, initially built as a private residence in 1917, opened to the public in 1975 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation thanks to its location on the unceded ancestral lands of the Ramaytush Ohlone.

The grounds feature a 54,000+ square-foot house, 16 acres of pristine English Renaissance gardens, a 6.8-acre Gentleman’s Orchard, and hundreds of acres of Natural Lands with five distinct ecosystems and a 1-mile Estate Trail. 

Designed by architect Willis Polk, the 54,256 square-foot house took three years to construct, including 56 rooms. Designed as a space for entertaining on a grand scale, the large Ballroom and Reception Room hosted concerts and debut balls, while formal dinner parties were held in the extravagant Dining Room. An array of indoor and outdoor event spaces can be rented for private celebrations with capacities ranging from 10 to 1,000 guests.
